Once again this year, Frame[o]ut will present on 16 separate evenings some cinematic surprises on the outdoor screen at Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. Every Friday and Saturday, beginning at 9:30 p.m. at the boule courts in Hof 8, an open-air cinema will present fiction features, documentaries, and short and experimental films in addition to new filmic forms created by a primarily young generation. Before each screening, moderated discussions concerning the evening’s program will be held with filmmakers, artists and experts.

2017 is
Frame[o]ut’s tenth year of screening films and a reason to celebrate: The festival will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the MQ Haupthof with a concert given by a singer/songwriter with Spanish and Indonesian roots, Clara Blume, who will perform with a full band: Marcus Pristernik on guitar, Thomas Castañeda on piano, Mathias Auinger on drums and Marcelo Ramos on bass, and Blume will accompany herself on the piano. Beginning at 9:45, we’ll show the first film in accordance with this year’s MQ motto, Summer of Movement: Lukas Valenta Rinner’s fiction feature DIE LIEBHABERIN/A DECENT WOMAN (AT 2016). Rinner will be present at the screening.
In line with this year’s MQ motto,
Summer of Movement, Frame[o]ut will show six evenings of new documentaries, shorts and fiction features about political uprising, activism and other reactions to coexistence in society.

Our program partner will be this human world - International Human Rights Film Festival. YOUKI, Austria’s largest international youth and media festival, will also present a program in line with the motto.

Also at
Frame[o]ut 2017: films about making movies with found footage and in digital forms that come straight from electronic nirvana. An evening with the Calle Libre - Street Art Festival will focus on documentary film and numerous international guests who work with graffiti

On another evening, the outstanding films from the second edition of director Virgil Widrich’s Austrian American Short Film Festival will be presented.

A film program accompanying the exhibition of the same name, WELT KOMPAKT?, will focus on Brazil, showing works by the artists and a surprise film that will be chosen at the vernissage on June 22.

Frame[o]ut finale, in cooperation with the Cat Video Festival Vienna and the Vienna Shorts Agentur, will feature a noteworthy and popular genre: cat videos.
