Mickey is a daring band name. Difficult to google. Heavily burdened. At least not a band name that anyone would recommend. Mickey is survival-pop. From a situation in which you have nothing to lose except your own time.

At 17, Amber chose the gender-neutral Swedish pronoun "hen" and began counselling with a therapist specialising in gender identities. Change, friendship, identity and belonging, recurring cycles of seeking and finding characterize Amber’s everyday life. A portrait about love, communication, intimacy, the body, experimentation, about challenge, failure, success. A Film that unites so much and yet has a clear focus: Amber. And Amber, by being so close to her, makes us realise that friendships and intimacy will come and go, as well as notions of gender, body and belonging. But above all, that constant change is allowed and necessary if utopias are to be lived.

Hannah Reinikainen was born in Stockholm in 1992. She studied journalism at the local university and documentary film at Biskops Arnö Nordens Folkhögskola. As part of her work for the production company Story, she was involved in the making of Shapeshifters by Sophie Vuković as assistant director and editor. After two short films, Always Amber is her feature film debut as a director.
