Summer. Between a spirit of optimism and lethargy, the three friends Qe, Li and Jeta are waiting in a small village in Kosovo for the results of their university applications. While they wait it out and the stifling summer air becomes heavier and heavier, they hang out in houses that have never been finished built, talk about the future and stay in silence about the present; they smash bottles in empty swimming pools and parody those women, who have stayed in the village all their lives. But when the young women are confronted with the insurmountable limits of their hometown, they finally decide to form a gang! The directorial debut of 21-year-old filmmaker Luàna Bajrami abruptly evolves into a feminist gangster film slash road movie that neither ground nor itself in distant utopias.

Luàna Bajrami was born in the Republic of Kosovo and is currently based in France. She began her career as an actor, with parts in television and film projects including Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019). The Hill Where Lionesses Roar (2021) is her directorial feature debut.
