Wherever Jana runs to, there seems to be no way out of the remote village in the mountains. Not even through the new highway that is to be built. Does the unknown man who suddenly appears have something to do with it? No one knows for sure. But the news of his arrival spreads like wildfire, rumors fly and in no time at all it is rumored that the new man is to be murdered. In a preordained sequence of events, Jana runs against time. But where time stands still, many things go round in circles.
At a rapid pace and with gripping urgency, this charming debut film draws on familiar Western and noir stylistic devices and leads its narrative strands along mountain paths and village gossip to where everything is done to ensure that nothing changes.
Nina Ognjanović was born in Belgrade in 1995 and studied film and television directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. Where the road leads is her feature film debut, which won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Honorable Mention at Slamdance 2023.
