The premiere of a film starring the director's father: it tells the story of Jean Galmot, a businessman who emigrated to Guyana in 1910. Video images from the present push themselves in between, disrupting the process and forming a back and forth. A tugging at the time-space structure between colonial and postcolonial times.

From an Indonesian point of view for the first time, archival footage that European colonists shot in the Dutch East Indies between 1890 and 1930 in present-day Indonesia is used. The filmmakers appropriate documentary recordings, home movies and feature films and use them to assemble a visual essay about plantations, the social construction of skin color and the generalized term “tropical fever”. The audio level refers to the supposedly autobiographical and long-acclaimed book by a Hungarian plantation manager who lived in Sumatra. Construction plans of the former colonial power of tobacco and rubber plantations are shown and interpret the power structures.
