Director: Maxime Jean-Baptiste
Editor: Maxime Jean-Baptiste
Music: Josy Mass
Voice: Gilbert Jean-Baptiste
The premiere of a film starring the director's father: it tells the story of Jean Galmot, a businessman who emigrated to Guyana in 1910. Video images from the present push themselves in between, disrupting the process and forming a back and forth. A tugging at the time-space structure between colonial and postcolonial times.
Maxime Jean-Baptiste is a filmmaker based in Brussels and Paris. His first film NOU VOIX (2018) was selected in around thirty festivals and art exhibitions and received the Jury Prize at the Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris. His second film, LISTEN TO THE BEAT OF OUR IMAGES (2021), which he co-directed with his sister Audrey Jean-Baptiste, has screened at CPH:DOX, Hotdocs and ISFF Clermont-Ferrand, among others. His work focuses on archives and forms of re-enactment to capture and interpret memories.
