AUT 2022 | D: Vitoria Monteiro | Short film | 15 min. | OV with German Subtitles

Grandmother and granddaughter, the filmmaker herself, enter into a dialogue about the importance of community. While Vitoria deals with feminist solidarity through ideas of glitch feminism and online communities, her grandmother has reached out for autonomy through her work with plants. This creates a new form of togetherness for the two women. They exchange ideas about feminist communities, ideas of nature and femininity, about loneliness, work and resistance.
"The flower remains, like the persistently proliferating digital glitch flowers, entwine and frame the film and combine to form queer feminist ideas of new forms of community that are not afraid to be utopian." (Daniela Zahlner / sixpack)

"Rosemary is good for the memory," says Ceclsa, smiling. She carefully strips the green needles from the branches. While working in their garden, women meet each other to remember and heal through and with plants. The aim is to ease the pain of Paraguay's past. This past penetrates the present when Ceclsa tells of the crimes of the dictatorship under Alfredo Stroessner, whose violent acts are still strongly intertwined with today. While the scent of rosemary unfolds almost perceptibly through the cinema images, a gentle story about the severity of social wounds emerges. Roots and seeds become opportunities to explore historical entanglements and future perspectives, starting points for communal remembrance, for healing and resistance.
